GEISHA IN SILHOUETTE WRITING A LETTER, Ca.1900-10 Gelatin silver print. Photographer unknown.
Nothing but the available lamp light was used to create this rare interior scene of two Geisha (or Maiko) conferring together over a letter being written by the girl on the right. The intimacy of the subject combined with the raw, unassisted photography makes for one of the more unique photos I’ve seen from this period.
